What You Should Know About Immersion White Tin PCB Manufacturing

If you work with printed circuit boards and PCB manufacturing in your business, then you have probably already heard of immersion white tin, but may have questions about how it actually works and whether it's a process that you should care about.

Given that we are leaders in immersion white tin PCB fabrication here at Omni, it goes without saying that we are heavily in favor of its use. To understand why, you first have to understand the reason behind our preference for white tin in the first place. Traditionally, circuit boards have been finished with a coating of material, usually containing lead, as part of the soldering process. That's great for the functionality of printed circuit boards, but less friendly for the environment since these metals (and the byproducts created) can be extremely toxic.

By substituting immersion white tin as a finish, on the other hand, we are able to achieve the same effect, but without the damage or byproducts. In other words, immersion white tin is a great way to meet the goal of environmentally friendly printed circuit board manufacturing – great for business (ours and yours), great for public relations, and most importantly, great for the planet that we live in and leave to our children.

With that basic explanation of immersion white tin and PCB boards out of the way, let's look at the three things you really need to know:

1. Immersion white tin is environmentally friendly. By taking the toxins, harmful metals, and byproducts out of the PCB manufacturing process, what we are left with isn't just less damaging, but is also more sustainable than the alternatives. Regardless of how you look at it, our printed circuit boards are a responsible, cutting-edge way to meet design and manufacturing needs. And for those looking for the most environmentally friendly printed circuit boards, it’s hard to find a solution with a lower impact than our RoHS compliant Immersion White Tin finish. Why sacrifice the environment when you can meet your cost and production goals by working with us?

2. Immersion white tin lets you do the right thing for the planet without any tradeoffs. As great as this technology is for reducing the environmental impact of printed circuit production, it's just as favorable for your bottom line. Unlike some systems, which increase your costs or decrease the quality of your product for the sake of the environment, using immersion white tin doesn't mean paying more for printed circuit board fabrication or accepting a lower standard of product.

3. Immersion white tin is more consistent than other environmentally friendly circuit board technologies. Certainly, there are ways other PCB manufacturers are looking to reduce their impact on the planet, and you may have heard of some of them, like ENIG or HASL. In reality, though, these methods aren't as easy on the planet as ours are. So, why settle for anything less than the best when it comes to green PCB manufacturing?

There are a lot of reasons that more and more of our customers are asking us about immersion white tin PCB manufacturing, and it's something that we are proud to be able to offer to them. In reality, though, it isn’t customer demand that led us to be a leader in the industry, but the fact that we think it's absolutely the right thing to do and the responsible way to work as a PCB manufacturer.

By working with this technology and staying environmentally friendly, we can feel good about the company we operate. And, when you see the results for yourself, you'll feel every bit as good about our printed circuit boards.
